Dear All,
The studio for Art and Time | Media cordially invites you to a lecture and discussion with artist & filmmaker Anna Spanlang.

Screening and talk by Anna Spanlang with Constanze Ruhm as part of the lecture series at the Institute of Fine Arts, organized by the department Art and Time | Media
Anna Spanlang’s works seek to limn a poetics of the ordinary while underscoring the political dimension of an everyday life in which community, friendship, and feminism are actually lived and not just discussed. (Anne Faucheret)
Anna Spanlang's working method is one of processual documentation over a long period of time: sifting through the most disparate video recordings, discarding them, assembling them, reconsidering them, taking them apart. Through her feminist montage, the artist creates (new) meaning. She thus explores the strengths of her found material and enters into a new relationship of trust with the images. In rearranging and reinterpreting everyday situations, she creates a specific space for play. Spanlang's videos about feminist solidarity always create a real, utopian counternarrative to the history of patriarchy and all that it stands for - colonialism, capitalism, environmental destruction, violence. The motifs range from demonstrations against femicide and women posing on cars to a sculpture of a giant used tampon. One thing is clear: the patriarchy must go. Abolishing it may still take some time, but until then another world remains possible in Spanlang's imagery, a world of communality in which friendship, but also artistic creation and self-actualization, take center stage. Dear colleagues,

“The history of the body is the history of human beings,
for there is no cultural practice that is not first applied to the body.”*
How is our body conditioned when it collides with another?
Does a body exist only when physically present, or could it live on through a memory?
The first exhibition curated by Juan Rodrigo Torres Plata and Jennifer Posny for the Exhibit Studio in 2024 proposes an exploration into the many ways in which our bodies, as (mis)carriers of information, meaning and experiences, express what words can hardly describe. There is a focus on the complexity of human bodily interactions, starting from the vague fundamental barrier between what we consider the inside and the outside: the softest, yet thickest skin that holds us together.
It saves our memories, internalizes guilt, externalizes shame; receives and provides touch, sends power. Forgets.
Does it really forget?

As part of the lecture series Best Available Copy 4 – documentation as copy<https://www.akbild.ac.at/en/de/institute/konservierung-restaurierung/verans…>, we will invite you to a lecture by Annet Dekker on 13.03. at 6 pm
Annet Dekker: From recursive to refiguring
Documentation has become ubiquitous, moving from a way to reflect a past life of an artwork or event, as a copy, a repetition or a derivative, into a practice capable of changing the status of the artwork. In this sense documentation not only future-proofs but also relentlessly (re-)invents and (re-)becomes the artwork

A workshop with Sara Hassan
The workshop is for BIPoC students.
Thursday, April 11th, 10.30 a.m. - 1.00 p.m.
Room DG18 (Top Floor), building of the institute for Education in the Arts, Karl-Schweighofer-Gasse 3, 1070 Wien
Power abuse is not a single-issue problem. Marginalized people disproportionately become targets of harassment, sexual and otherwise, and not by accident. How do various forms of oppression interact here? How does racism, sexism, queerphobia and other forms of discrimination work together to effectively push people out of systems? How are these dynamics reflected in perpetrators' strategies, bystander actions, and systemic patterns? In this workshop, we will work through a tailored case study from a BIPOC perspective to identify the escalation levels of harassment and look at how various discriminatory dynamics come into play when people become targets. How and where does power abuse start, how can we identify early warning signs and develop an intersectional understanding of power abuse and harassment?
This is an interactive workshop with practical examples. We would like to invite you to send specific case studies, red flags/warning signs, or patterns that you have noticed to the workshop leader: kontakt(a)sarahassan.at<mailto:kontakt@sarahassan.at>. All cases will be treated completely confidentially, only patterns will be used to illustrate the specific case study.

[cid:image006.png@01DA749A.72EE81F0]Sara Hassan, writer, moderator, and keynote speaker, has been working on the topic of abuse of power and harassment since 2015. After many years of international work in the field of political communication (including in the EU Parliament), the co-author of the book Grauzonen gibt es nicht (It's not that grey<https://periodbrussels.eu/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Its-not-that-Grey_Peri…>) gives lectures and holds workshops on how to spot early warning signs of power abuse. After completing an interdisciplinary Master's degree at New York University as a Fulbright-Austria scholar, Sara now works throughout Europe as an expert on the topic of abuse of power.
As the number of participants is limited (max. 18), registration is essential. Registration is possible until 07.04.2024 at af_gleichbehandlung(a)akbild.ac.at<mailto:af_gleichbehandlung@akbild.ac.at>. Please let us know if you are unable to attend at short notice so that we can pass on your spot. Water and hot drinks will be provided.
The workshop will be held in English. Follow this link<https://www.akbild.ac.at/en/university/locations?set_language=en> for accessibility details. Please let us know if you require hearing aid tools.
The workshop is organized and financed by the Equal Opportunities Team (AfG), Schillerplatz 3, M19b, 1010 Vienna.

Impact Academy Residency in Genalguacil (Andalusien, Spanien)
(English Version Below)

Impact Academy Residency in Genalguacil (Andalusia, Spain)
The small village of Genalguacil (472 inhabitants) in the Andalusian mountains is fighting depopulation with art and culture. Therefore, thirty years ago an "Artist in Residence Programme" (Encuentros de Arte) was initiated by the local population. Years later, the Public Museo Genalguacil was built, to which the LAB Genalguacil is currently being added. A place that deals with topics such as "Rural Innovation" and "Impact of Arts". The focus is on artistic research activities, the involvement of communities and the development of interpersonal relationships through art, culture and nature.
The Impact Academy of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is now launching a new era in the design of residency programmes. Because beyond the classic understanding of a residency, people and projects from the Academy are involved in the development process and help shape the Genialguacil relationship space. As an experiment to meet the challenges of our time together with fun and clever solutions with artistic aspirations.
The first two artists to be selected for the residency from April to June 2024 by a jury consisting of representatives of the Pueblo Museo Genalguacil and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna are Irene Lucas and Patricio Sota.
Irene Lucas is a visual artist, researcher at the Academy and founder of Solarmanufaktur.at and art space toZOMIA. Her artistic practice combines methods of nature, art and playful education that have a local impact and at the same time reflect global contexts.
Patricio Sota is an artist and studies architecture at the Academy. His artistic understanding of architecture is fuelled by the idea of a mobile stove and initiates cooking performances and kitchen arrangements as social happenings around the idea of home.
In the course of the thirtieth anniversary of the museum in Genalguacil, several exhibitions and happenings will take place in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, such as a contribution to the New European Bauhaus Satellite Event in April in Genalguacil and a presentation of the cooperation in Circulo de Bellas Artes Madrid together with the Austrian Cultural Forum in Madrid.
