Filmscreening and talk (in French with English translation. Translation: Julien Segarra):
Stop Filming Us, But Listen by Bernadette Vivuya and Kagoma Ya Twahirwa | DRC, NL | 2022 | 72 Min. | OmeU
Stop Filming Us But Listen explores the history of colonial representations in the Congo and follows the journey of Congolese filmmaker and journalist Bernadette Vivuya and her fellow local artists as they strive to challenge Western narratives around the city.
In Goma (DRC), Vivuya seeks funding for her decolonial film. At the same time, a Dutch director wants to make a film about the conflicting perspectives of Goma but is quickly confronted with the local community's refusal to be filmed. This sparks a conversation around power and trust, colonialism and representation.

14.00h-15.00h: Get together and brunch with Ganza Buroko and Bernadette Vivuya
16.00-18.00h: Lecture and discussion in the context of the lecture series: Race, racism and concepts of identity in contemporary art, Postcolonial Studies I. (The talks are held in English and French, with translation by Julien Segarra).
This lecture focuses on the cultural and educational work in Yole! Africa and aims at an exchange about difficulties, commons and potentials of decolonial education.
Yole! Africa (Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo) is a cultural and educational center that fosters social innovation through art. The decolonial curriculum and activities prioritize critical creativity and empower young people to address the pressing social and ecological issues the communities in the region of Goma face. The center aims to develop the critical mind of its students, in particular by encouraging them to think about the consequences of colonialism, what remains of it in our societies, break with the colonial representation, and how to project ourselves in a future free of any colonial footprint.

(Wissenschaftliches) Publizieren und Open Access
Eine Einführung in die Wissenschaftskommunikation mit Andreas Ferus im Rahmen der Reihe WissensWert.
[cid:8ccca71a-eb48-4e43-a33d-cd942b7ba46d]
• Datum: 14.12.2023, 10–13 h

The Hero's Inversion and a Bloody Pointer.
On the Rediscovery of a Battle Painting by Salvator Rosa
[cid:image004.jpg@01DA21F7.905B1D20]
Salvator Rosa, Large Equestrian Battle (detail), 1645,
Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, Paintings Gallery
The Large Equestrian Battle originated in Florence in 1645 for a client close to the Medici. Together with two other monumental battle paintings that Rosa created for Ferdinando II de' Medici and Louis XIV, it is one of his most ambitious and daring works. The unconventional artist broke with the tradition of glorifying war and depicted it as cruel slaughter, with no identifiable opponents in terms of friends and foes, winners and losers. In the centre of the picture, there is no victorious hero, but a mortally wounded figure who falls backwards off his horse. Meanwhile, a soldier with a bloody finger writes the letters "R O S A" on a stone.
Gudrun Swoboda, MA and PhD in Art History and Ethnology at the University of Vienna. Collaboration on the reconstruction of Aby Warburg's Mnemosyne Atlas, first exhibited in 1993 in Vienna, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and later in Germany, Italy, Tokyo and Tel Aviv. In 2000, her specialization in Old Master drawings brought her to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Research assistant (since 2002) and curator (since 2009) for the later Italian, Spanish and French paintings at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien (KHM). Curator of major exhibitions like the KHM 125-Years anniversary show on European festival culture (2016), Caravaggio & Bernini (together with the Rijksmuseum, 2019) and on artistic competition from antiquity to 1800 (2022). Lecturer at the Institute of Art History of the Universities in Vienna and Bern, and the IES Abroad (Institute for the International Education of Students). Fellowships at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence (2004), the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome (2018) - both Max Planck Institutes - and the Getty Research Institute (2014). Her particular research interest in the history of the institution of the Imperial art gallery (today's KHM) since the 18th century has led to several publications and international conferences.
