The expanded concept for the new series of On painting will be held over four events commencing in the 2023 summer semester. Artists will be invited to bring in their own painting, which will be exhibited in the Exhibit Eschenbachgasse space alongside a referece object ad a copy of a historical painting.
Theater als Bild – vice versa
Gloria Pagliani in conversation mit Alice Dal Bello und Alexander Harvey
Exhibit Eschenbachgasse Fr, 15.12., 19h
At the end of the 15th century, studies on perspective influenced both painting and theatre design simultaneously. At the same time there began to appear in cities indoor theatre buildings, this is notable because before this theatre was typically practiced outdoors or inside of churches. This new type of theatre featured what is called a proscenium - a frame like structure functioning both as a viewing port and as a division between the audience and what is happening on the stage. This division may also be referred to as the “fourth wall”. Enabled by the recent studies on perspective, those designing for the theatre began to create scenery by “projecting” a two dimensional image onto the proscenium as if it were a screen. The scenery was then constructed according to this projection. According to this scheme the three dimensional space of the theatre stage came to be planned as if to create a two dimensional image, which is to be observed by those seated in the audience. Because of this a representation of depth similar to the one seen contemporaneously in painting found its way onto the stage. Notably, the Italian term for the theatrical fourth wall is “quadro”, which can also mean “painting”.
Gloria Pagliani, Alice Dal Bello and Alexander Harvey created an expansive object to guide the discussion, designed specifically for the paintings in the exhibition.
Gloria Pagliani is studying Art and Image / Abstraction, Academy of fine Arts, Vienna. Alice Dal Bello and Alexander Harvey study Stage Design, Academy of fine Arts, Vienna

Dear students of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna,
We are on the hunt for your films/video works for an inter-university film festival in Stuttgart, which will enter its second round in February 2024... SPRUDEL FILMFEST: RELOADED
>> <https://forms.gle/1UJeGQDQ3nrZctTWA> Submission form link<https://forms.gle/1UJeGQDQ3nrZctTWA> <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeMjeU7vDI3x3Dc1S5cWIi4quqiDbupTHj…> <<
Open Call Deadline: 08.01.24
Sprudel Filmfest: Reloaded: Thu. 15.02.24 and Fr. 16.02.24
Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart: "Neubau 2" and "Aktionsraum"
The jumble of videos and films created at art schools is quite unique. This peculiarity and diversity of unclassifiable narratives, skills, formats and motivations creates a relevant niche of work that could perhaps open up its own genre/style...! And every moving image needs its platform, its film festival.
This year's Open Call is open not only to students at the Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, but also to students at the HFBK Dresden and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Since the first Sprudel Filmfest in 2021, the legendary organisational-trio has partly bubbled on to Dresden and Vienna. We want to use this opportunity to expand the "Sprudel Filmfest: Reloaded" across universities.
We welcome video works from all fields and disciplines, whether experimental film, documentary, music video, instagram-story or feature-length film. We're really looking forward to lots of moving images from Stuttgart, Dresden and Vienna (and maybe a few visitors too) and two days full of sharing and sizzling inspiration on the big screen.
Sparkling greetings,
Nele, Sara, Jakob and Jim

Talk by Omer Krieger as part of the IBK lecture series (Ringvorlesung), organized by Eduard Freudmann
Omer Krieger - Public Actions
Thursday

Omer Krieger is an artist based in Berlin. The focus of his work has been on performative actions in public space, social situations, forms of assembly and civic choreographies. He is the co-founder of Public movement, a performance group based in Tel Aviv, which has worked on a variety of performative actions in public space, such as events, rituals, ceremonies, and political actions. Many of their works are created in collaboration with scholars and experts in fields outside of the arts.
Krieger was the artistic director of Under the Mountain, a festival of public art which
operated in public institutions and sites of national, civic and religious significance in Jerusalem, presenting performances, architectural expressions and common assets by artists, citizens and public officials.
Between 2018 and 2020, Krieger served as the artistic director of 1:1 Center, which operated in a three-story building in the neighbourhood of Neve Shaanan in South Tel Aviv. The center related art and politics and hosted a series of exhibitions, a trans-disciplinary event program, talks, screenings, courses, workshops and actions in public space. Among others it was home to the ARDC (the African Refugee Development Center), the Israeli-African Theater, a non-profit organization that supports sex workers and drug users as well as the Neve Shaanan Archive.
In May 2023 Krieger presented his performance piece Eviction at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, turning a spotlight on the critical moment, in which a group of people refuses to leave a building, and a political force is sent to evict them. Through a composition of movement, architecture, video, music, and documentary sound, moments of eviction unfold on a 1:1 scale, enabling the audience to witness closely the choreography of eviction - from the barricaded group's side and from the evicting forces' side.
Following the terrorist attacks perpetrated by Hamas in Israel in October 2023, the Jewish Museum Berlin is currently showing the video work Rehearsing the Spectacle of Spectres, a production by Omer Krieger and Nir Evron created in 2014. The work focuses on Kibbutz Be'eri - one of the Israeli communities most affected by the October 7 attacks on the Gaza border.
