Hopefully you had a good semester start!

We are the student representatives (ÖH) of the Doctorat (PhD) Students at the Academy of Fine Arts.

We have some news for you that we want to share in this newsletter:

(1) Since there were ÖH Elections we have new voted representatives in the ÖH

here you find a brief introduction of the three representatives for the upcoming 4 semesters: Aleks, Hyeji and Teo

Aleks is a PhD student in Philosophy and interested in the legacies of Eastern European state socialism, as well as critical and decolonial theory. As a member of ÖH, he is concerned with facilitating spaces for students from the Global South and migrant communities and making the Academy an inclusive, decolonial institution. 

 

Hyeji, also PhD student in philosophy, is focusing on digital aesthetics alongside critical theory of posthumanism and cultural politics. As a student representative, she aims to make bridges to connect with the researchers and students from outside of the academy, to open up more possibilities to share,discuss and get inspired.

    

Teo in a student in the PhD Program Dok Phil. Was already very involved in ÖH-work during the last legislation. Right now he is also vice chair of the curricula commission for the PhD Programs. Teo is based in Vienna and writes in his dissertation about epistemic injustices and Social Work.

(2) With big success we started last term a tryout of having a collective virtual working space. We want to continue this offer and host a virtual working space for all those who want to break the isolation that comes with writing a dissertation.

Our PhD colleague Vica will host once a week a virtual space to which everyone can join.

The idea is to have a check-in on what people are working and a good writing session of three hours to than again meet and check out. This concept was famous during covid lockdowns and remains a great resource to exchange with some comrades during a working session. (3) Here we already want to announce our End of Semester Party date. Please mark it in your calenders so that we can have a nice exchange along with some snacks and drinks. The Date is: January 25th 2024 from 6 pm on at Schillerplatz. Details soon.

We will also offer an option for people to attend an exchange meeting online for those who are not in Vienna or who can not attend in person; it will be the same day from 5 till 6 pm. A Link to the virtual space soon via Email.

    

(4) Survey

As you might have seen, the Academy is asking for your participation in a Survey regarding the PhD in Philosophy. Feel free to join the survey.

(5) We are planing to start a new series: PhD and Cinema
